Defense Department awards applied research funding to four universities.
Last week, the Department of Defense announced the awarding of four applied research awards to four universities. They will each receive $500,000 for the 2022 fiscal year to fund their hypersonic research programs.
The Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station is developing navigation systems that can withstand the physical demands of hypersonic vehicles. The University of Virginia (UVA) is developing scramjet engines capable of operating across a broad range of flight conditions. The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) is investigating how to enable hypersonic vehicles to achieve precise velocities and altitudes. And the Florida International University (FIU) is attempting to create a solution for monitoring the health and status of hypersonic aeroshells.
